37 Weeks Yo!

So it has been an exciting week...

At our 36 week appointment we learned our midwife left the country and would be unable to be at our birth.  We interviewed a CNM located at a hospital right around the corner and her backup OB. It went horribly. The CNM was perfectly nice however, her backup OB was not VBAC friendly and (without looking at any medical records or examining me) essentially said I was not a good VBAC candidate and I would more than likely be needing her to perform a c-section. She was pretty rude about it. I left the meeting in tears. Until this point I had only been surrounded with positive comments and support regarding our choice to VBAC. We had been praised for choosing to educate ourselves on the choices of childbirth. I had read on countless blogs and from other Vbacing mamas, stories of doctors telling them "no" or even getting upset at them for making this choice, but I had never faced it myself. I knew the current research and statistics on the reasons and excuses the OB said, but I suppose either my shock or fear or maybe my inability to be confrontational kept me from saying anything but "oh, ok" and leaving with a lump in my throat.  I had a mini break down in the car. I felt selfish for wanting to VBAC all the sudden.
                                                                                            then..... i got over it....

WTH! How am I selfish for wanting whats best for me and my baby! I deserve a positive, peaceful birth experience. I am worth going the extra mile, all mamas are! I would want my little girl to be strong when everyone says "no".

I decided to take a shot in the dark and email Intown Midwifery in downtown Atlanta to see if I could transfer back to them.  We had been to them before (when we first got to GA, however the hour drive downtown with a 2 year old was too much for me so I transferred to a hospital near our apartment)  We had  heard nothing but positive things about them and their backup OB was voted the BEST in Atlanta and only works with midwives (he's a pretty rad guy -- Dr. Bootstaylor )  They emailed me back with a yes and setup an appointment for the next day.  They are a great team, very similar to a care provider I would find at through the birth network in fort worth. They are actually planning on building Atlantas first and only birth center next year. Yay Birthy People!!!! They also are not completely restricted by hospital policies, their clients can VBAC in water (only people that will allow that) and basically run their practice like a true birthcenter (in a hospital).  So not really a bad move for us  =)  I believe the universe has brought us back to them for a reason =) I couldnt be more pleased.  I mean if the worst case scenario is me having another c-section from the best OB in the city, who happens to practice mother friendly c-section and work with midwives, thats really ok.

Anyway thats what went down over the past week.
